For many people, bringing up the idea of travel elicits the thoughts of draining your savings account, racking up your credit card, even taking out a second mortgage on the house just for the chance to spend a few weeks exploring another country.
Is there another, better way to see the world? What if instead of spending your life savings to finally see The Great Wall, you could make money while you traveled?
Digital Nomad: An online entrepreneur who makes the world their work space
The concept of being a digital nomad is relatively new and may be hard to believe if you’re used to thinking of travel as something you do when you’re not working.
Being a digital nomad means you make your living online while you travel. The world is your office and you can work from absolutely anywhere with a decent internet connection. Your laptop is your chance to finally fulfilling all of those travel filled dreams.
Instead of saving up forever to see the world, digital nomads get paid to travel by working as they go, one city or country at a time. Living as a digital nomad eliminates the need to have enormous amounts of cash saved up before you get on the plane, because income will continue to flow throughout the duration of your trip.
Being a digital nomad isn’t for everyone. Many people may wish to travel just to see as many cities and countries as possible in the shortest amount of time. But for adventurers wishing to travel long-term, working as you go is a great way to see the world.
A typical day looks something like this:
- Wake up early, have breakfast and get to work in my hotel room or common area.
- If the wifi in the hotel is poor, walk to the nearest coffee shop and set up there.
- Work for 3 or 4 hours.
- Break for the afternoon, enjoy lunch and do something fun!
- Return to the hotel and work for another 1 or 2 hours before dinner.
- Depending on the workload, enjoy the evening or take a quick dinner and return for more work.
- You can see that there is actual work involved in a typical day, it isn’t a never-ending vacation. But the great part is that even though although we’re working full time, we have an exciting foreign city to explore anytime we want.
How can you also get paid to travel how do you start?
While there are many different ways to make money traveling. Blogging, affiliate marketing, freelance web work…the list goes on and on. What you want to do is up to you. It’s not hard starting an online business. Do your research and plan accordingly.
